| Community Supported Agriculture Community Supported Agriculture is a rapidly emerging alternative to conventional food marketing that creates a direct marketing relationship between the consumer and the farm. Families receive a weekly box of fresh, homegrown, seasonal produce at a better-than-retail price. CSA's allow growers to focus on land stewardship and maintain productive and profitable small farms while meeting needs of the community. Members have a rare opportunity to connect in a meaningful way with other who care about the food they eat and how it is grown. The Red Root CSA box feeds two to three people, depending on diet. Since all your vegetables are coming from a local farm, the food in your box will vary according to the season. Vegetable type, as well as variety, will vary weekly. A weekly nesletter contains the ups and downs of the south Alabama farm life and recipes that can be used with that weeks produce box. The box can be picked up at a designated location, or, if preferred, a home delivery option is available. The cost of membership in the CSA is better described as purchasing a yearly share in Red Root Farm, in which each member enjoys the rewards and also takes the risks with the farmer. this means some weeks durning the year a more limited amount of produce will be available, but during most weeks, members are delighted with an abundance of veggies. There is a core group of active members that help guide the farmer in making the best choices for the CSA. All members are invited to be active in the core group. We encourage members to come and spend time at the farm for pleasure, work, or for a casual tour. Just contact us by telephone to work out the details. |
